Burl Maple and the new Lemke Dark Earth Green made in Montana hardware on my new Graywolf Ben’s 662. Shane also was kind enough to monogram it for me. I love this rod.

Nice to see that, Kenov! I thought I might be only one that had that same reel seat on one of Dan's Lamiglass builds. :)

Hi Merk, I assume you meant sell, not seek here :). Auto correct is a wonderful thing :). Sorry, this a bit off topic but at this time we are not selling those seats to the general pubic. We are also in the process of starting a small rod company, and it’s possible we could do some limited edition rods with those seats. I may make a post to the forum at that time about our company, but they are graphite rods. One of our lines will be among the softest graphite rods ever produced though. Our other line will be a more traditional medium action rod and softer than what’s commonly in the market today. Btw your skateboard seat is pretty neat. Nice work!

Will do Tom.

A few more pretties...

From my favorite short rod, Ijuin Yomogi. If I remember correctly Tomo said the wood was from a 1000 year old cedar tree.

From a Barclay rod I used to own. A nice lacewood seat.

From a Cris Carpenter cane rod

Top flor cork, aluminium slide rings with the same matching butt of Bakelite. All made in my rod shop.
Reel is specially made for me as a 5th Ann collaboration by Mr. Mitsuru Ishii from Japan.

here's my favorite.

the entire rod is hand-carved from a single young Beech trunk...

Corlay - I loved following your build on that beech rod. How is it fishing these days?

Thanks!

It fishes surprisingly well.
A bit of a "heavy 4", I may try it with a DT5 Sylk and see if it can take the extra loading weight without getting "unruly"...

A small mistake: I made this rod, my first attempt at a solid wood fly rod, from wood I harvested myself, and only "seasoned" about 2 months.
The benefit of splitting and planing "green wood" is that it goes MUCH EASIER.
The detriment, I've now realized, is that the rod may develop some "bends and sways" in off-season storage...

I am making another.
this time shorter, and a lot more delicate.
And had a whole year+ to "season". (split from the same Beech trunk as the first rod...)
It's been test-cast with some guides taped-on, and for a 5'9" rod,
the tip is ridiculously delicate and surprisingly responsive at close fishing distances.
Probably better than most any other rod of this length/lineweight - in any of the "common" materials (Bamboo, Fiberglass, Graphite)

The "light shorty" is really the sweet spot for this material (Solid Wood).
(can't imagine the turn-'o-the century guys wielding a 9'-10' solid wood rod, back in the day!)

Will be finishing-up that second build over the next month.
Will post some pics when completed...
