Thanks to a gear swap with a kind forum member I was able to get my hands on one of these renowned blanks. My first experience with the Western Glass series, I get it now. Sweet and soulful, light and lively, paired with a wf 406 6wt line there’s not much this rod wont do.

I bought darkened Snake brand guides because the original plan was to mimic a winter sky, with silver silk and blue dun highlights. When I received the blank, though, i noticed a warm, cream-colored tint, so I decided on #305 Maui Sand kimono silk with Fuji Blue Dun accents. Fenwick-style cork from Proof with black nickel up-locking seat from Ray Lee.

Nice build! I’ve heard good things about the western glass 866. Is the finish varnish or epoxy?

Thanks Dude. The finish is epoxy, Threadmaster lite.
