I own two fly rods by Yasuyuki Kabuto. One is built entirely by him, the other I built myself on a blank of his. I tried to get as close as possible to the original, because I appreciate the simple and clear design of Kabuto. The wooden insert is Japanese grown golden camphor.

How do you like the 79345? What’s you’re preferred line for it?

I’d say you achieved your goal. Nicely done and really like the camphor insert.

Lovely rods!!!

I am particularly fond of Kabuto builds because the simple elegance is exactly the look I desire in a fly rod and I find them somewhat reminiscent of some of my favorite Leonard bamboo.

Excellent job!!

Hi mcswny
I use the 79345 for the smaller fish on the high mountain streams without much brush or on smaller lakes. It is versatile, gives an elegant and silky feel on the cast, and is exceptionally accurate. At the same time, it is long enough to allow a relatively long drift if necessary. It also protects fine leaders very well when fighting. I use it in tight places with a WF4 and in places with more backcourt (right word?) with a DT4. It also works well with a Rio single hand spey 3. It reaches its limits when the thermals set in strongly on windy afternoons. (I will poste some typical pictures on the "Fishing with Fiberglass Fly Rods" Forum. )

I really like the cosmetics on your blank. Gives me some ideas on an e-glass blank I just got from Shane.

Love these!! Do the rods come with a “Kabuto” logo sticker or did you do that as well? I’m likely going to be buying one soon for me to build!
