Here’s an NFC Iconoglass 7’6” 4wt I finished about a month ago. Tried to keep the build simple with gray silk wraps on the gray blank. Snake lite wire guides, also in gray (black nickel). Stripping guide is a 10mm REC Cerecoil in black. This is the first time I’ve used a cork reel seat, and I definitely plan to use cork again, especially on shorter 2/3/4wt rods.

I was in north Mississippi a few weeks ago for my grandmother’s 95th birthday and had a chance to test the NFC 764 out on some farm pond bass and bluegills. The rod handled a small double barrel bass popper surprisingly well. This rod will be great for light warmwater fishing.

This turned out great! The minimalist aesthetic is great on this rod.

Wow. Yours turned out great! Wana trade??

All jokes aside, that looks awesome. I found that mine was a quite capable all around trout rod but also capable of casting large hoppers and smallish poppers or even unweighted streamers with the right leader. Surely an excellent pond panfish rod. Very curious to hear your impressions on this rod vs. The troutsmiths 7'6" 4/5

Thanks guys! Brookie, I jiggled the NFC and Troutsmiths side by side, and they’re similar fast glass 4 and 5wt tapers - NFC being the 4wt and TS as the 5wt. I think I’ll prefer both with half-weight heavy lines like SA MPX. The NFC has a bit more progressive flex in the mid section than the TS, but the TS actually feels slightly lighter in hand.

When you say you prefer the TS with a half-weight geavy line, do you mean a 4.5-weight?

I think I’ll prefer a 5.5wt line on the TS and a 4.5wt line on the NFC. The TS is much beefier in the butt and mid than the NFC.

A nice looking minimalist build. I like the cork reel seat. Is that from Proof?

Thanks, the reel seat and grip are both from Proof. I’m planning to use the same grip/seat combo on my next build - a J. Green NTS 6’9” 2wt.

Well done! The gray silk is just right on that gray blank. Have fun with it.

Well done. I've built 2 of these 4 wts and 2 of the 5 wts. They are gorgeous blanks to begin with and lots of thread colors look good on it. I like the black REC stripping guide. Didn't know they came in black. And they fish great.

Beautiful ! The work, the blank color, choice of thread, cork, hardware and the way everything was put together. Love it.

I like that build and LOVE that grip shape!!

Although a different shade of gray, that rod reminds me of the Leonard Graftek and also of my first fly rod (which sadly I no loner own) that was gray on gray with black hardware.

Excellent work!!
