My good friend Bill (wjude) helped out on this one. I sent him the butt section and he turned/fit the grip, American Tackle seat and fighting butt.
He also suggested the main thread color, Pro Wrap pea soup, as well as guide sizing. He sent the butt section back and I completed the rest. Guides are Pac Bay, stripping guide and winding check are American Tackle. One turn of Gudebrod scarlet and several trim bands of an old wooden spool of green/black twist I found in a pawn shop in PA. Finish is Minwax spar. I built this one for my son. It's going out on Lake Erie tomorrow!

Nice build - great wraps and finish. The 8wt has become my go-to for fishing lakes. Anything lighter and I feel like I don’t have enough oomph to hit my target or cast through the wind.

Light green and black are a great color combo in my mind. The pea soup thread and nice level epoxy work turned out great. Well done.

Nice simple and clean builds like this always catch my eye...nice work! Built and use my 868 Iconoglass to be my still water and light duty salt rod and been really happy with how it fishes.

Very nicely done. What do you think of the rod? I don't know much about the 8wt's from NFC.

What line did you try on it?

lone wolf...I didn't get a chance to cast it on Lake Erie when we were out. If I had to guess though, it's probably more powerful than my CTS 868...which is like a "light 8".

Good to hear. I've been fishing more 7 and 8's for bass recently. I used to use 6's but it was tough to cast some of the bigger flies. Shane is building a Steffen 7/8 for me. Big bass on glass is always fun.

I’ll bet that’s a cannon.
