Hi everyone,

I'd love to see everyone's build on green blanks as I've been looking at a few different blanks for a build and one I'm looking at is green. I've been thinking about a dark maroon/garnet for thread color but looking to see what others have done with thread, reel seats, etc.

Standard "state of the art" review to get this started. As likely to show what you don't want to do as what you like.

This olive green blank came from Proof. I wrapped it in Fuji dark brown with metallic gold (ProWrap Calcutta) accents. The brown is a nice, rich color that has a touch of burgundy in it. It actually looked more red before the epoxy went on. I contemplated doing orangey/yellow (Goldenrod) main wraps with blue Dunn accents. I think those colors would’ve matched the blank nicely as well.

There is quite a variety of classic 'glass factory rods in shades from pale green, through olive, to dark green. Some new ones on the market, too, Pics of any of those might give an idea or two for a home build hardware and thread scheme. Me, I would keep it simple with close-in-color wraps. Someone else could do better with brighter, more distinct color schemes.

BigHeavy, What blank did you use? Was it the meadow? I've been looking quite a bit at proof stuff but not sure if this is an older or different blank than the ones they have available currently. Love the look of it and was somewhat similar to what I was contemplating for my build should I end up going with the meadow.

It was a blank called the Olive, 6’ 2/3wt, similar to the Reed on the website now. Looks to be the same shade of olive green as the Meadow pictured above.

The Proof blanks are pretty nice for the price and Matt (owner) is a solid guy, great to deal with.

The mention of green blanks has my thoughts turning towards a couple of favorite graphite rods and while brown blanks seem to be the most common color in fiberglass rods, shades of green glass also make for beautiful fly rods.

Shown below are a couple of green fly fiberglass fly rods owned by fishing buddies. McFarland and Glastech.

Also enjoy images of the Ijuin green blank builds posted by others in the past as well. Keep the custom builds coming.

Green is a tough color for me. I often go with some shade of red, as others have above. And I've posted a few pics here of one that I wrapped in chestnut. But I really like what Grouse did with the spruce green and silver.

Looks great. I definitely was struggling to figure out what I wanted to use for wraps. I think I landed on going with green and actually throwing purple accents in there. Think that is probably pretty rare for most fly rods but I think it will be unique. I ordered the non-treated purple to go with the treated green so hopefully it will look neat. If not, oh well!

You may know this already, but it's worth repeating. Undecided on thread color? Order a few different colors. On the butt section, where you'll place your grip and reel seat, make some trial wraps of each color and apply your finish. This will tell you which colors look best to your eye.

I did order a few extra. Sometimes it pays to be indecisive because then I just end up covering all my bases and give myself options to delay the decision making process lol. I hadn’t really thought about actually wrapping/finish on the butt section though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Love the Western Glass 3pc 8’-6”-5wt that I built out for myself, on that oddball run of green pre-preg blanks that (shall remain nameless) had a batch of a few years back, feel fortunate to have scored it, without a doubt one of my favorites.

Lots of great rods on here. It makes me want to find an olive blank to build on again.

This CTS rod is the "seaweed" color. I used ProWrap merlot with it. I used the same color combination when building my uncle a green graphite rod for Christmas. In both cases, the thread really pops in the sunlight.

Been quiet for a while , moving house a couple of times but things are settling down now. This was a nice combination I did recently.
Yomogi green and Struble pear, tied together with kimono wasabi.

Love the twisted rope details on that brass hardware, super cool. And the lime green wraps complement the blank perfectly. Beautiful work
