This is my first glass build, but I plan to do more. I love the feel of this rod. I used snake brand guides and a Struble agate stripping guide. For thread wraps I used Kimono #100 silk and man o' war spar varnish. First time with silk and varnish. It was a bit of a learning curve. And I used india ink for the inlays.

Welcome to the Forum! Is that the 'natural' color Iconoglass blank? With spar varnish, make sure it cures fairly hard before the rod gets too much handling. I've scarred spar varnish wraps because I just couldn't wait to get the new rod to the water.

Thank you! I've been lurking for a while and learning. And yes, this is the natural finish.

I plan to start a new thread soon in the re-builds/repairs section. My wife volunteers at the Habitat Restore once a week and brings me treasures from time to time. Last week she brought me a 2 star garcia conolon spinning rod with a 1970 abu-matic 170 on it, and a Heddon wormer with a 1971 ambassaduer 5000c on it. The reels were in great shape and cleaned up very nicely, but I want to do some playing around with the garcia conolon rod.

Nice build. Color goes great with that agate stripping guide.

Very cool. And sounds like a great hook up with the re-store. And thanks for the good tip about the varnish, jgestar

Nice build - I love the white/natural color on glass blanks and your wraps turned out great! I recently finished my first rod build and caught the bug like you. Just received my second blank in the mail and finished ordering components yesterday. The rod building process is more fun than I expected.
