FFR Image Uploading and Posting

Quick Start - Image Uploading in Three Steps
  1. Choose the images on your device
  2. Upload the images from your device to the forum
  3. Place the image codes into your post

Step 1 - Choose the images on your device
Click the Image Upload button above the smilies on the left of the post editor and the forum image uploader tool will open.

Next, click the Add Files button.

Select your file(s) and press Open (or the equivalent your Operating System shows).

Your screen will look like the next image.

Step 2 - Upload the images from your device to the forum
Upload your image(s) by pressing the Start button(s) to the right of the file(s) or the blue Upload All button above the file(s).

Your files will upload to the forum storage area.

Step 3 - Place the image codes into your post
Place your cursor in the editing window of your post and click at the location where you wish the image to appear.

Scroll back to the file upload window at the top of the page. Choose your choice of image size, either a thumbnail or a full size image.

Note: you must click the code inside the small rectangle to place the image. The contents inside the rectangle will turn blue.

Results
After you click the code box, you will see the image code appear in the editing window. It should look like the red underlined text in the image below.

Note: DO NOT remove the rimg or timg codes on either end of the image code line. If the image needs to be moved, cut and paste the entire line of code, including the square brackets.

Once you have inserted your images into the editor, use the Preview button to check your message. This will allow you to correct any errors or alignment issues before you Submit the post.

In conclusion
Image uploading is a service to be used in conjunction with posting in the Fiberglass Flyrodders (FFR) forums. By uploading your images, you are allowing FFR to display your images as part of the forum discussions. FFR will not use your images outside forum discussions without your written permission. While FFR is operational, we will do our best to preserve your photos as you uploaded them. However, FFR is not responsible if the images on our servers are lost or corrupted. Please ensure you retain copies of your images.

Image Uploader Highlights
  • Your use of this service is solely for images that you personally own or that you have obtained full use permissions from the image creator/owner.
  • Multiple image files are accepted up to a 5MB user limit per image.
  • Not everyone has a high speed connection. At least half of forum viewing is done with smart phones. Smaller photos download quicker and view easier.
  • Extremely large files eat those smart phone data plans quickly. Please consider the size of your image files before you upload them. If possible, save your photos as a smaller size before posting.

  • The image(s) must reside on your device initially; direct upload from another website does not work.
  • Images can be added one at a time, or as a set, either by selection, multiple selection, or drag and drop onto the uploader page.
  • Three versions are saved on the forum: a 150px thumbnail, an up to 800px by 600px regular sized image, and the original image.
  • Your choice to add either thumbnails or regular sized images to your post.
  • Preview thumbnails are shown, allowing you to make adjustments to your image selection(s) before you upload them.
  • For most, tapping or clicking the code box will automatically insert the image code into your post at the point where your cursor was placed. Some users may have to copy and paste the image code into their post.
  • Warning: Make sure all your images have been placed into your message before clicking the Preview. The Image Uploader window will disappear after a Preview or Submit.

  • Please do not hotlink to FFR hosted images at any other site (such as eBay). You are free to link to your forum post.
  • Uploaded images cannot be renamed or deleted. Please plan ahead. Of course, you may still edit your posts, should you so need.
  • If you do not wish to, or cannot use the uploader with your device/OS/browser combination, you can still use previous methods, such as Imgur.

Viewing Forum Images
  • Clicking on a thumbnail or regular size image will open a new window, displaying the original image at full size.
  • If a user posts multiple images in a topic, these images are connected.
  • Clicking on any of the images allows viewing all images in that thread, from that forum member, as a slide show of the full sized images.
  • Quoting a post with image links will display those images as thumbnails, no matter what. Clicking the thumbnail will display the full sized image.

Tips for Posting Better Images

First, take good photos of your tackle (easier said than done).
  • A neutral tone, very plain background is better than very dark or very light. A sheet or plain table cloth makes a good background.
  • Put plenty of light on the subject - outside in open shade is great. However, avoid direct sunlight or patches of sunlight (the photo will be washed out).
  • If you must, trick your camera to focus by including a big barcode near the subject (crop out the barcode later).
  • Use a tripod if you have it.
  • Fill the camera frame with the image. Get as close as the camera or situation will allow.
  • Take many photos, but only use the best one or two. One good fish photo often tells the story better than twelve fish photos that look basically the same.

Please edit your images before posting, if possible. Posting photos on FFR is most readily done from a laptop or desktop computer.
  • Crop out the extraneous stuff from your photo.
  • Reduce your photos to a "post friendly" size. Resize the photo to no wider than 800 pixels. 640 pixels wide is better.
  • Save the photo as a .jpg or .jpeg file, preferably at a quality where the final file size is less than 100KB.
  • Images of line drawings or pages of text are best saved as a .gif file.
  • Make sure to save the cropped and resized photo to a new name so as not to destroy your high-resolution original - Ron.
  • Unedited cell phone pics are rarely good photos and usually take up far too much memory.
  • To reduce the file size of a cell phone photo, stand further back from the subject. Then closely crop the photo with the phone software. This often reduces the pixel count and as a result, the file size.
  • If you do not have photo editing software, there are many helpful online services. For example: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ However, using a computer to access the service is best if you have one.
