Nicely done. Really like the blue agate that matches the blue trim rings perfectly. Totally agree with your assessment regarding handle size/diameter.

Thank you, as in the notes I did some tests for this blue agate and an upcoming green agate on the butt.

Prior to this rod, I have been almost always using Silk and Al's CP, but I really wanted transparent wraps for the Kabuto's I am working on. So I have also been testing threads and what a thin epoxy looks like.

The previous build was with an amber 5wt. Though, I selected a much more "bland" stripper guide, as the vision was make the wraps glow. It is nice, when the vision works out.

Short: Creek rod, which also excels with a bow and arrow cast.

I have several 3 weights, and my impression without lining them up side by side ....
* Kabuto - I would use on a small crowded creek or even a beaver pond.
* James Green - It is 4pc, more flexible for and travel (check in). With a stiffer lower 1/3 than the Kabuto, I actually find it more flexible in most conditions - from short to long to roll casts.
* Scott 7' graphite - I assembled almost 30 years ago, it has a little more authority at distance than the James Green, but I prefer the James Green or Kabuto for most situations where I would fish a 3wt.
* Sage ESN - it is for 10' and it is for french leader fishing, but it casts well. My fishing partner (wife) likes this, if she see no dry fly action.

I have not fished the Kabuto enough to give a full review, but it would be the rod I used to bush wack into a small creek.

I am interested in your views.

nice build and nice write up on your blog. Does the grip have any taper to it or is it just straight? I like thicker grips as well.

JS thank you

Small taper with the diameter decreasing from the bottom (reel seat), and at one inch from the top, the diameter increases.

Though subtle, I believe I sense the end.

Elegant build. I really like the pop of color. And I'm with you on thicker grips too. A winner all-around.

I know nothing about rod building so found your recap fascinating, especially how you took epoxy aging into consideration. Line comparison was very helpful also. Beautiful work.
