Hello to everyone.

I've been reading this forum for years, but had no experience in fishing glass. This winter I was finally ready an' willing to get involved in glass and rod building.

The blank is some very cheap 7 foot 3/4 weight with spigot ferules. Cork was made to be kind of a torpedo - bull nose and the reel seat just had to be cap and ring style.

Since I'm an absolute beginner in rod building, i went for single foot guides - less work. :)

Couldn't wait to try it out on my small stream. Love it !

So, I guess I'm hooked on glass now. Must build another glass...

that came out nice - beauty brown.

I always helps us to know the context of where you fish, if you update your profile with your location.

Bulldog1935, thanks !

I'm from Belgrade, Serbia. I fish mostly in Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia.

Some of the rivers I fish are:

Gradac, Serbia

Lim, Montenegro

Zlorečica (it's name means The Evil River) Montenegro

Ribnik, Bosnia

My favorite species are european grayling and brown trout, although i love rainbows too.

Yes, beautiful country, and nice build. There is nothing more satisfying than catching fish and your own built rod and your own tied flies!
Mike.

Congratulations! Your build looks great!
And man, those are some awesome fish!

That Brown in your first post looks like it could eat your reel and half your rod.

You’re off to a fantastic start -keep it up!

Excellent build and great photos. Especially like the photo of the mayfly. Your streams and scenery remind me of our Ozarks’. All the best and continued good fishing.

Thanks a lot, guys.

Since the blank was 3/4 weight, the first line I tried was my old Rio Mainstream DT 3, which is a little heavier and it was a very good match.

I've found that line to be very versatile for a 3 weight line since it will cast any dry fly, even large stoneflies and it can roll weighted nymphs and smaller wooly buggers too.

Welcome , that is a very nice rod you have crafted. It appears that it can handle some serious weight as well. Thank you for sharing a look at the beautiful rivers you fish and the inhabitants they hold! Well done and thank you.
Carl

MM 84, a really nice looking rod, I almost can't believe this is your first build. You didn't mention the reel seat... Where does it come from? Homemade maybe? And your rivers look excellent!
(Čestitke in lep pozdrav iz Slovenije)

Thank you all for the kind words and for welcoming me, really appreciate it !

Rsavli, you would believe it if you see it in person, since there are some clear signs that the rod was built by a beginner.
Some of the guides are wrapped a bit sloppy with uneven layers of flex coat.

I'll do my best do to better with my next build (oh yes, I can't wait to build another glass rod :) )

The reel seat came from here. https://www.hilevel.se/en/news/reel-seat-mh60.html
Since the butt section was too thick, I had to install it by using stent.

I'm glad you like photos of the rivers I fish, although I can't imagine you being too impressed, since Slovenia is mind blowing.
What a country ! Fishing Slovenia is certainly on my "must do before I die" list, and I'm specially attracted to Mostnica river.

(Hvala na čestitkama, lep pozdrav za Sloveniju) :)

Great! If I had seen your fly tying skill as posted in the Tying section, and then you had asked about building a fly rod, I'd have said, definitely do not build a fly rod. Build one, then another and another. Photograph the outcome and post here. You far exceeded the goal of a functional rod on your first build. No reason to be shy of snake guides. Unless you prefer single foot, you'll find that snakes are actually easier to align and wrap. Lots of tips in the Rod Building section here. It will be great to see another, both the building outcome and the fishing results. Thanks for showing the first one.

I agree with everyone else, great job! I especially appreciate your torpedo - bull nose shaped cork handle, something I don't see a whole lot of, but I personally like very much!
