Here is a Mcfarland GTX 6-weight that I just finished. I built the rod with saltwater-safe components in the hope that I can chase some sea-run trout or something else fun one of these days. In the meantime, it should do great on our local lakes and rivers.

Here are the details—the full wells grip and anodized aluminum reel seat are from Custom Fly Rod Crafters. This is the second of these seats that I've used, and I like it a lot. The fighting butt is a leftover from an Epic kit many years ago. The light wire guides are Snake Brand in their ECOating. The blank is a cosmetic blem, so there are a few dust spots here and there if you want to look for them. Otherwise, the blank is wonderfully straight and meets the high standards we've all come to expect from Mike's shop. The thread is Fuji Poly blue dun with chestnut and black accents. With a few coats of varnish, the blue dun turned the color of a coastal PNW stream like the North Umpqua. I really like how it turned out.

I'm hoping to get the rod out for a test next week on a local lake, and I'll report back once I get it on the water. Thanks for letting me share.

Great choice of colours and super flat and smooth wraps. A perfectly crafted tool. Thanks for that inspiration!

(Have chosen one wrong word first, sorry for that...)

Stellar Build GlacierRambler!
Very classy looking estuary rod..
I really dig the poly blue wraps
Reminds me of the old Phillipson Scout’s
Blue wraps.

I really like the black tipping matching the black aluminum reel seat .
So choice!!
I’ve used the Ecoated snake guides on a few rods I had built out .
Best guides I’ve ever fished
I wouldn’t use anything else unless I wanted all black guides .
Hope you get that rod a lil salty soon.

Clayton, as usual great work on the build. The signature area and the finish on the wraps is of the highest quality. Those GTX blanks are amazing.

Beautiful finish work , just a solid high quality build , I would be very much looking forward to testing out that rod too , could almost use it as an excuse to fly off to some sunny warm angling paradise …?
