Here's the bottom half of a rod I was given.
The only markings I can see is an "S" (78-79?) for the year, no other numbers or stickers are there...Under the eagle on the left side of it's feet it says "made in USA" just barely readable with old eyes...
There is no Fenwick logo or wording on the real seat.
50 1/2 " long, and at the hook keeper it measures 0.469.
Don't know if that measurement is helpful at all, just wondering if rods of differing line weights would measure differently at that point?
Would that 50 1/2" section translate to it originally being an 8' 6" overall length?
Would there be any way to determine what line weight it could have been labeled at?
It has at some point spent lots of time in the sun, the color is noticeably faded on the top...
Hoping to someday find a top section that would make a fishable rod out of it. Roy

Roy,

I would have to measure, but I am wondering if it was one of the 8'3" models. If the tip and butt were originally the same length, you loose a couple of inches at the ferrule.

Unfortunately bottom sections are much more common than top sections. The tips are the ones that get caught in car doors and ceiling fans. So maybe a tip will arrive that fits it and casts reasonably well, but maybe not. If you have the space, it is pretty if nothing else.

Thank you Sir,
I kind of figured finding another tip section would be a long shot, but I'll keep looking !

You will find a tip section as soon as you get rid of the butt section. It is the way.

As a thought - I have a ff705 butt section paired with a (I assume) ff755 tip section. It came to me that way. It casts fine, bluegill machine.

Carlz: Yep, I would bet that is exactly how it would happen!! :lol

BrookieBoy: sounds like a fun rod! Maybe someday I'll get lucky and stumble across a top section that would work ...

Orphan butt sections make great reel holders for swapping lines and such.
