I finished this blank this fall, and got it out for a nice day of fishing before the weather turned. It was baptized with westslope cutthroat, all 16" and over (large for this species). It's a really fun, moderate action rod.

The blank is E-glass, and I used goldenrod Fuji Ultra Poly thread for the guides and garnet for the accents. The reel seat is a Struble D20 in titanium, and it has a tiger maple insert. The cork was turned by me, and I sewed the rod sock too.

Nice work. I like the Fuji thread choice...color and the way it wraps.

Beautiful rod very nice work. What’s the action like compared to the western 8’6” 5 wt.

That is really a nice rod. I contributed the one I built for a fundraiser auction my grandson’s school had several tears ago. Felt good giving it up for the auction, but miss it sorely.

Thanks everyone.

Little kern golden, the action is definitely slower than the Western Glass. Swing weight is higher too.

Love it! You have to fill me in how you dealt with the unsanded blank and the signature area. I'm about to tackle that myself and could use some help. Yours looks great!

Indeed a beautiful piece of work, excellent work. I had no idea Rusty had honey blanks!

Thanks. I put a thin coat of epoxy down over the sanded blank to make it smooth enough to write on. Then once the epoxy has cured enough, I write on the blank with a Speedball calligraphy pen and nib. After that, another coat of epoxy goes over the lettering.

I've been using Testor's model paint for the lettering, and the silver flows really nicely. I haven't gotten the other colors to flow as smoothly, even when thinned. India ink is next on the list to try.

You can also write with on a clear label with a Pigma Micron marker or India ink pen, then attach the label to the first layer of epoxy. Add a second coat of epoxy as before. The labels I have used are nearly invisible on clear/white blanks, but they're somewhat easy to spot on other colors, so I just write directly on those blanks. I may need to try a different brand though.
