This is a Shane Gray build on a Ben’s of Holland blank. It is a simple but elegant build. I have been lawn (actually street) casting it with a Scietific Angler Infinity 4wt. For me, it has a smooth, progressive action that puts the yarn fly pictured accurately where I want it repeatedly. This is a really nice, easy casting rod.

I’ve become a huge fan of Ben’s of Holland sticks. Was already a huge Shane Gray fan!

Last weekend, I fished Waterloo creek in the Iowa driftless region with Ben's 7' 3wt. Used 4wt Wulff triangular taper. The setup fished very nicely. Caught about 20 brown in 10-13 inches. Mostly on dries, griffith gnat variations and p. adams. Got a few with hare's ear dropper. This was my first time using the glass rod. I liked the rod very much, although the feel with fish on was not as crisp and responsive as my 3wt Orvis full-flex graphite.

Colishin that sounds like a heck of a great day! I hope to fish the driftless one day…

I highly recommend trying the driftless one day. Browns are not as big as those in other places. But they are dramatic when they are on. Once you find the right flies, A 50+ fish day is not unusual.

I also am a huge fan of the 7'5" 4wt Ben's of Holland blank. I got my blank from Shane a year or two ago. The rod came in at 2.8oz and with the reel is just over 6oz in your hand. It matches my casting stroke well and is really accurate from 15' to 45'. Enjoy.
