Really enjoyed fishing this one on the Blackfoot. Also swinging soft hackles on the Clark Fork. Rattan handle with pine underbody. Snake brand universals with olive thread and black accent.

Beautiful looking rod, nice work!

I’ve been eyeing this very same blank for my first build. How would you describe the action of the rod? What line are you liking with it?

Thank you. I have been using a double taper four, but haven't tried anything else on this blank. This line seems to work very well, so I just forget about it and fish. The action is moderate, medium and seems to be able to cast at distance. It will tell me if I overpower it, but if I slow down, it will do the work. I am pleased with it.

Sounds pretty sweet, thanks for the feedback.

Nice classy build! - I like the single black trim band in the middle of the wrap - did you use thread or a marker for that?

That is super nice work. I should look into a Proof kit at some point.

Never attempted that kind of grip. Can you explain the "pine underbody"?
Beautiful work.

Instead of using a cork base I turn a pine dowel to the shape that I want and wrap the rattan over the dowel. Cheaper than cork, and seems to work well.
