It's gorgeous. Fished or lawn cast yet? How do you like it? I have another dumb question, why did you change from epoxy to varnish? Thank you.
I haven't fished or lawn cast it yet. Shame on me. I even live on a lake. Haven't even had a reel on it but I cast the 5 wt version I built a couple months ago. They (NFC) are different. Maybe a little on the heavy side but nice and supple. I suspect the 5 and the 4 are the same taper as the tips are both size 4 but the butt diameter goes from a half inch to around 7/16" on the 4 wt which kinda makes sense being 6" shorter. Much different rod than the J Green 5 wt I built a couple years ago. As far as the varnish, I've had an unopened can for a while but was afraid of the unknown. I don't like using color preserver so I thought I'd try the Spar as a first coat to see its darkening properties a few rods ago. It seemed to not darken the thread as much At least that's what I told myself. Then I finished with Epoxy. This rod is all Spar Urethane. No mixing, fast drying, easy to tweak between coats. Thanks for asking.
