Last spring I scored this Minty “J“serial numbered Fenwick SF75-5 spin fly rod from the original owner’s son.

He said his dad purchased it in 1970 and used it fishing the Appalachian mountains of Maryland ,Wv And Pa .

I was stoked to have a rod made the year I was born .I was hoping to fish with It last fall when i turned 50

That however didn’t happen ...
Last summer I was bushwhacking a local tidal marsh when a BIG Northern Snakehead decided to blow me up and destroy my #12 Bett’s Trim Gim

The fight was fast and furious and I was able to hold on for about 30 seconds before the Trim Gim gave up the ghost with a nearly straightened hook. See pics

The worse part wasn’t Loosing the fish it was the small crack /creak I noticed the next time I used the rod .
Right at the first/base female ferrule (sorry I’ve got no “before” pics lost them on my hardrive ) only have the after pics

Tom @ Toms Custom Rods in Belair Md performed all the repair work.

Top notch repair along with some cork lovin and a new tip top to replace the dreaded OE carbide tip (Couldn’t stand it too much tip bounce) I was initially just gonna swap it to a fly tip top but compromised and went with this Fuji Ultralight ceramic tip top.

I really dig the Aetna foulproof guide Fenwick used on the Early Og Feralite spin-fly rods
Plus the cool sliding reel seat .

I can’t wait to have some adventures with this rod.
Rocking it with a Daiwa “Strike Force” SF 706 fly reel and a Shakespeare Alpha 035 spinning reel
Lines to be determined this week
Cheers Ottobahn

I love those sliding reel seats..
my SF75-5 has a fixed seat with the handle reversible, it works but would prefer the slider.
It also has that lumpy great carbide tip guide, have been thinking about replacing it..

use it with a Martin 67SS for fly, and a newer Abu Cardinal (chinese-made) for spin.. great rod.

I briefly had minty one and the wiggle said it would make a nice six weight fly rod, but holding onto the reel seat assembly drove me bonkers, so I sold it.
