A couple of builds I have been working on this winter.
First up.... yep, another Lami. This time on a FL906M blank, 7.5'. It has a spigot ferrule, Garrison style hardware, redwood reel seat, Gudebrod garnet nylon wraps with black silk trim, and Snake Brand lightweight guides. It will cast any 5 or 6 weight line I have, but I like it best with a 5DT. It throws really tight, crisp loops. I would call it medium to medium/fast. It is certainly faster than anything in the current Lami Honey lineup.
Next is a Phillipson 8' 6/7wt on a 802C Epoxite blank. Glass ferrule, Garrison style hardware, walnut reel seat, Fishhawk medium brown nylon with black silk trim, and Snake Brand lightweight guides. I've never cast a Phillipson before and this one blew me away. When you wiggle the rod, you think "no way this could be a 7wt it is flexing into the cork already." However, I tried it with every 5 to 7 weight line I had and it did great with all. I'm thinking for kicks of trying it with a 4 and 8 weight line. You just get the rod moving backwards, wait for it, get it moving forward, and the line just shoots out there!
With all my other 6 weights, I was thinking I would put one of these up for sale, but they are so different from each other I don't know if I can, they certainly are not redundant. How can I sell off a Lami? And the Phillipson is unlike anything I have ever cast. A true "if I could only have one rod" rod. Oh well, if the Mrs. asks, all I need is just one more fly rod......
