Hello,

I recently just finished my first rod build, Haldin HDT37. I wanted a minimalistic build. I didn't used a hook keeper or winding
check (just few silk wraps with epoxy to seal the cork handle). I have a lot to improve, but still I am pretty happy with the result.

Rod info
blank: Haldin HDT37
real seat: cork with nickel silver sliding bands
thread: silk thread Peche a Soie (light yellow + purple trims) no color preserver
guides: Pac Bay light wire black

Thank you all for your help in this forum. Comments and criticism are welcome.

1st build? Damn - that's a great job for your first - can' wait to see what you're doing after you have some more under your belt!

Great work! I recently did my first as well and I definitely didn't do as well on the wraps as you did. It was one of those things where once I was done I felt like I knew what I was doing, but not a moment before hahaha.

Thank you for the feedback. I also want to see some other builds. I hope it will be to someone, not just for myself :-). You know, to share happiness elsewhere. It is also my first fiberglass fly rod. I was pleasantly surprised how it is feel. I am definitely more connected with the fly or with the fish. A big change against carbon. From now, only fiberglass...

About the wraps. I do a lot of re-wraps. Until I was able to accpet the quality. But the hardest part was the epoxy. And with all of my effort I still have trapped a few tiny bubbles.

Super job! The grip and seat, the thread work all comes together nicely. Did you make your own slide band hardware?

Looking at the picture i cant tell if the butt is plugged. If not, you will want to epoxy a cork plug into, or a butt cap/plate over the opening to keep stuff from getting inside the blank.

Thank you. Slide bands are made by local bamboo fly rod makers J&JObdrzalek based on my drawings. I don't have a lathe and It's a little bit pricey for first attempt.

Yes, you see right. The but isn't plugged. I planned to put piece of cherry wood into, but I forgot and now I kinda like it. But you are right I should do it for keeping inside of the blank clean.
