Hello all. It’s been quite a while since I had a glass flyrod build to post. Just finished this one. Forecast SPG720 blank with a 3” stent. Proof grip and pocket DL seat, minima stripper, and PacBay snakes. Thread is dark brown A nylon with 4 coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane.

I’m very much into the minimalist look lately. No hookkeepers or winding checks, bare minimum components and finish.

Loudog - You had the same experience I did several years ago when it seemed like a number of folks were building on these blanks. I even boiled wine corks for the grip and reel seat. I still have one of the 6ft blanks. When you added the stent, are the sections the same length or is the butt longer? I have this notion that if the tip became a staggered tip (longer) that might help lighten it up. Will have to sacrifice that last blank to find out I guess. Roy

Very nice build dog! I like your minimalist approach. I built a few too 780, 720, and i think 760. Cant beat them for the price. I still have my 6'6" 780.
Seems to me that no matter the length they are all 5 or 6 weights. Fun to build and fish. Could this be the beginning of Tadpole Redux?

Hi blueprof. That stripper guide is a PacBay Minima guide. They have a very thin stainless steel ring insert vs ceramic. Perfect for lightweight strippers.

I used a size 10, which I find works well for lines 4-6. My 2/3 wts usually get a size 8 and bigger rods get 12, 10, then running guides.

It seems these Tadpole glass blanks never go out of style, they just do the job, and find new ones along the way. Specialized builds for salt or freshwater, and spin or fly builds, it makes no difference. Nice build Loudog!
