This winter and spring has been really slow for me. I had big plans for my work in the shop, but in February I broke my arm. When I finally removed the cast, I got hit by the famous virus. But things have been moving in a good direction lately, and I finally up and running again the shop. Here is one of a few recent builds.

I have a soft spot for Scott rods and the Scott heritage. That's probably why I'm so in love with Larry Kenney's tapers. This is a Kenney 8', 5/6wt prototype blank in 5pc configuration made for my friend Max, who is also a Scott aficionado. We decided to dress it up in Scott appointments, with a sharp, black Rec seat, a curvy Ritz grip and a spherical fighting butt. Very similar to the Scott SW rods from the 90's designed by Chico Fernandez. We tried some spiral wraps, but decided to go for sparse orange tipping Fine Tackle style. The Abel reel looks like it was made for this rod (serial number 1000).

Thanks for looking!
Christian

Very nice and yes the grip, reel seat, and fighting butt look very much like Scotts from the 90s. Very nice build.

Such a beautiful fly rod. The reel is also a great fit. Pleased to hear you are on the mend.

Sorry you caught the nasty virus, and very glad you're now well. That's an absolutely beautiful rod, and done in an elegant style that pays homage to history. Thank you for showing!

Well let me tell you! Took the rod out for a spin yesterday and what can I say.. Feel, power, on all distances, has all the qualities I look for in a glassrod! Mr Kenney has a certainly designed a fantastic blank and Christian has executed the build accordingly!

Most importantly you are well! Every time I see any of your builds I honestly ask myself if it is ever possible to see perfection in life ? Your rods achieved that status.

A very non-minimalist look for you, Christian. Trim wraps? Winding check? Where's the hook keeper? Although I've never owned a Scott, I always thought they were a beautiful rod. I met Chico once at a shop opening in Dallas. Glad you are well.

Building up a Kenney blank is a retirement bucket list item.
