A ********* Western Glass 863-3 getting ready to leave the shop, build is for one of my fishing buddies. This is the only 8-6 length or longer of the Western Glass series that I have not cast, I just had to try it out on the lawn. Very smooth with a #16 dry and a 406 DT3 line on her, accurate out to 50/60ft, nice recovery on the tip. For the heck of it, I put a #10 Stimulator on it, accuracy suffered after 40ft, but it will cast it, even though the rod is not really designed for this. Very deep and full flexing blank when compared to my favorite the 865-3. This blank is a winner if you want to fish small flies to spooky fish.

Rod features a Lemke/Snake Brand .640 Down Lock Seat in Bright Nickel, shop turned Cocobolo Insert, Full Wells Grip, Pacific Bay XB Stripper Guide, followed by Snake Brand Universals and Tip Top. Wrapped with Gudebrod Garnet, trimmed with Gudebrod Silver Metallic.

Thanks for checking it out.

Looks sharp Bill. I'd love to try that blank out.

Looking great Bill. Do you know how this rod compares to the 763 *********?
Cheers

Thanks Matt, I'd say its probably not all that different, just longer, I have cast the 763, its full flexing just like this blank, but being a full foot shorter, tough to say. I'd message Dusty and see what he says.

Great build—elegant and simple. I love this taper. Very fun.

I got to play with the rod the other day for the first time I have to echo Bill sentiments on the rod.A very soft rod it’s going to be my new tool when casting small flies To skittish fish I think I’m gonna name at the Stealth bomber
