Just finished a pair of Epic 476s. The Olive is a packlight (5pc) and the Amber is the standard 4pc. I took very different approaches to the builds...

The Packlight breaks down to about 20" in the tube and is a quick little 7'6" 4wt. Seat is curly maple and fittings are NS and delrin. The black cap and black cork check are throw-backs to Winston and EW Edwards. Little classic details modern-ed up a bit.

Amber is a bit more traditional w/ a slim rev half wells grip and uplocking seat. The insert is waterfall bubinga and I machined a patina-ed brass butt cap w/ a cratered finish I'm enjoying right now. Wraps are a dark olive... very classic looking fly rod.

I really like the grip/seat on the packlight Matt.
Very elegant. Well done.

That Paclite is stunning. Very clean lines, punctuated by the black thread accents, check and butt cap. That and the cork and maple insert match so well.

Wow! Neat effect on the butt of the 4 piece rod.

Beautiful in every way. The cratered butt cap is distinctive, and I'll echo Stalkermike about the grip and seat on the Packlight: just right.

Thanks guys. The main things that got me building rods 25 years ago was the ability to adjust proportions and get them more in line with the the rod size and intended purpose. Too many factory rods just miss the mark. It's gotten better, but in the 90s it was the same 7" rev half wells grips as far as the eye could see!

Feels a wee bit creepy to say, but I love those but caps!
