While photographing the rod I thought of another question that I had forgotten to ask Larry Kenney. Larry said that when they began Scott Rod in 1974, they started with serial number 1000. I wonder what serial number Harry Wilson started with when he began to build these rods in his basement shop? I think Larry said this rod was probably built in 1973 and I am thinking that it might be difficult to turn out 533 rods on a part time basis in a year or so. I wonder then if he started with serial number 500 which would mean that this rod is the 33rd rod built? Does anybody out there have a glass Scott with a serial number below 500?
Duff, this rod got me started on my own quest to collect vintage Scott glass rods (yellow and brown). So far I've acquired 4 (4wt, 5wt, 6wt, and 10wt) and I'm always on the lookout for more! Thanks for sharing. I still get a kick out of reading your Holy Grail story all these years later.
