Here's another sticky taper from Japan. Looks and feels like a fresh straw of bamboo. This is quite far from the crisp, progressive US tapers we love to love. It's a bit tippy, very slow. It has a certain hang to it ... Hard to describe. It "paints" in the air and moves the line in slow motion. Is that what they call stickiness?

I have a few Japanese rods by now, and many of them have this kind of feel to them. One thing they have in common is the very large size of the snake guides. It looks like size 2 at the tip of the rod. This definitely affects the action of the rod. I would love to hear more about the Japanese stickiness from our friends over there. How you achieve it, and the metaphysics behind it. I kind of like it ...

Striking rod, Chris, and thanks for taking a stab at the "stickiness". As Mister Spock might observe, the concept is most intriguing.

It looks as though your rod came in Sticky Algae™ colour. . . or perhaps Green Apple Jolly Rancher®.

Very nice Chris! I've seen those around but haven't heard about them and would love to hear more. You're right, those are huge guides.

The color is nothing but amazing. It's unbelievable green translucent rods are so rare ...

Matt - It's quite new on the market. I picked it up from a guy here in Sweden who bought it new last fall in Japan. Not sure about the cost, but it's a mid price factory build.

Blue Dunn fly shop in Japan has them for sale. They came out last year. I thought about picking one up myself but have been hesitant because I haven't heard anything about them. The price is 22,610 Yen for the 763-4 and 21,660 Yen for the 703-4.

I contacted Blue Dun and they sent the international (i.e. english) order form right away ... have it all filled out but haven't clicked submit yet.. reasonably priced at roughly $230 before shipping (iirc). I have a bunch of new rods so maybe hold off but I also hate missing the boat if they stop making them ... i'd love to hear about the 7' 3wt. but I may have to bite the bullet to sample that one ...

Christian,

Can you tell us about the artwork on that reel. It looks like an ATH reel with a Japanese graphic on it.
The red color clashes with the rod a bit, but it looks nice.

here they are at Navy Bass.
http://navybass.co-site.jp/NTT/catalogu. .. feelex.htm
If you have ever tried to buy from a Japan broker, it's always easiest when you give them the link.
Navy Bass also usually has the best prices in Japan.

Price is about $240, but a broker will add 20% and another $40 to ship Express mail (4 days)
However, buying direct from Blue Dunn saves the broker fee.

carlz - That reel was made by Ari't Hart for me three years ago. The art work is a rising fish, and has been used on other reels and printed material over the years by Ari. This reel was only made in a few examples, but has all the tech spec of a F1 Traun. The color match isn't perfect, but it has a nice green/champagne tint to it, that accomplish the blank quite nicely.

Thanks Ron for the tip on how to order. The Japanese market is difficult to browse, and even more difficult to conquer.

Looks like I'm catching up with the new offerings from Japan.

Love the blank color and the grip/reel seat. I'm feeling the Feelex for sure.

I can't speak for chform, but I've fished the 7' version of this rod. Soft to the point of frustration, but if you can adjust your cast then it gets to be very enjoyable. I think the first model olive green blank Feelex was much nicer then the pinkish-red Feelex II. Same pleasurable taper, different color.

Ruff, I have the same rod. I haven't fished it yet. I also have an infamous "Nori like" which has real buggy whip tendencies.

My AirLite 6-pc is one of those couldn't pry, etc. .

Plus it's the only rod I own that fits in a half-frame bag on a bicycle.
