very classic styling. super nice. what blank was the staggered ferrule proto made up on? how do you like its fishability?

theoretically, that would have slowed the rod down somewhat and reduced its power a little. maybe that is what you were after. do you like the results?

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen!

Larry, I acquired a couple of unmarked 6' ultra-light spin glass blanks (with slightly different tapers) and some spare butt sections several years ago and decided to put them to good use. I put a spigot in the butt, and cut the blanks to made two tip sections. I built only the first tip, which had extremely uniform taper and a very fine tip. It throws DT4 fine, but I like it with WF5 for small midwestern spring creeks. It is accurate and a pleasure to fish with the heavier line up to 30ft. For longer casts the light tip becomes slightly wobbly and the rod works better with the 4wt line. I am planning to finish the second tip which is just a touch more powerful for an all around short 5wt rod.

Here are a couple of pictures of spring creeks from the Driftless area of the Upper Midwest, just about perfect for soft glass rods.

Vlad,

There's some very nice work in those rods. Some fine building ideas also. And the Driftless Area photos make me want to wade right in!

Where did you get the very nice, cork covered slip ring on the Prototype rod?

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your nice words. I had an old brown anodized Cortland cap and ring seat, but it wasn't anodized right-there was a significant color difference between the cap and the ring. To fix that, I just decided to cover it with cork.

Thanks,
Vlad
