I believe this rod was made for LL Bean, because the wraps, bag and tube exactly match a 7' tipover Master I have that is not marked as Phillipson, but is marked as an LL Bean Lightweight.

I agree - super rod. I can't help but notice the seemingly long gap between the tip and first snake ? I've never seen a configuration like that - seems that the angle would be greater at the point between those in relation to the rest of the rod.Just my eye maybe?

My Phillipson master basically has what appears to be too few guides and it is a long space between tip and first snake. if this were a graphite rod it might be a serious problem. with glass i think you can get away with it.

there are 7 snakes, a stripper and tip.
It seems pretty typical when compared with my other Phillipsons.

I believe that "Phillipson/3M Rod Blank" indicates a non-factory wrapped rod. Notice that the signature wrap obscures part of "Phillipson." Also, all of the Phillipson rods I've seen that were made for L. L. Bean are marked "L. L. Bean," as you mentioned. It appears that this was originally one of Phillipson's kit rods.
