In photography and design, good things come in threes.

So let's see your "three of a kinds," be it 3 generations of Hardy glass, a Heddon reel family, or whatever. [Please, no photos of #*$*!%% cheese.]

A flock of Golden Eagles.

I prefer them underlined one line weight.

Nice Golden Eagles!

I don't have (3) of any rod ... I guess I do have three Hardy's, but not the same models ...

I think this could be a really neat thread and I am looking forward to seeing people's trios Image

Docbd, that is absolutely fantastic. I wonder if I had it wrong all these years. I always referred to that as the "rule of thirds, " and so this fractional concept was useless as far as having one third of a shotgun, fly rod, or fly reel. Two-by-two, side-by-each--I had to go by having two of something I especially liked. I do have three and four deep of various favorite stuff, but never had an aesthetic or theoretical rationale for it.

If it is official to call it the "rule of three," I'm down for it. The Martin MG 3, by its very name, is appropriate to have three of; there are three in this photo and, under the side-by-each concept, two of another Martin style. I think I have 6 Martin MG 3 reels, but I keep them in two groups of three.

whirlpool, you're right on both accounts. There is both a rule of thirds as well as threes.

But if anyone wants to show a third of a rod (like my busted up Sage SFL!), go right ahead.

Oh, and it need not be "3 deep" of a certain series; go ahead and show us your 3 yellow glass rods or 3 vintage 5 wts or 3 favorite flies.

This is the best pic I have at the moment and my avatar. Three of the four are 6.5ft Wright & McGill or Eagle Claw Featherlights (60's, 70's and 80's versions). The other (second from bottom) is a mid-70's 6ft Eagle Claw Featherlight

Exquisite series of photos. A rhetorical device for emphasis, as in, "This threes-rule is good. Good, I tell you. Good."

Three 333 fly lines. Three 3-blade mini-stockman Camillus/Remington pocket knives. Three Martin 3-to-1 multipliers (a gray one, a black one, and a wide-spool marked for LL Bean. Three growlers.

Thanks Cameron. I knew you had three of something (including things to do that delayed you getting a photo into this series). You know, not everyone likes each Eagle Claw, but we all love all of them. Those three are sweethearts. Sweethearts, I say, sweethearts.

HA ... Okay ... the Featherlight photo was more or less a silly joke. I need to get my gear out and play with the camera a bit but did come across a photo of three of my favorite (all except my boxed minty Valdex) J.W. Young reels ...

Another principle of design is known as the golden proportion. Was it irony that you chose GOLDEN eagles to start the thread

Docbd was pretty clever to embed that "golden proportions" thing, wasn't he. I could have that in my subconscious but otherwise would welcome more explanation as I don't even know if that is left brain or right brain or earth, fire and wind. Meanwhile, Dhoover has outstanding forshadowing in the avatar pic above. You get three of something, that is an indication that you like it quite a lot. I mean, look at all those great threes. If it rises to this threeness, that becomes a oneness, so you need one spare.
