Cool graphics on the old box.
Worlds longest yard sale is going on
In our area. Thousands of folks set
up on roadside, selling just about anything
you can dream of.
An old friend found this and gave it to me
yesterday .bought for 2 bucks.

I'm guessing forties or fifties
Contains vise and some packages
of feathers.

Very cool as a display piece. Might be something useful in there but i would keep it as is as a collectible or display item.I know quite a few people who do the garage sale as a road trip vacation and find some really cool stuff.Different regions have different stuff.I get Heddon St Croix Wonderods for 20 dollars or less ,they are common here and not a lot of people fly fish. They assume it is only for trout.

I would mount over the fly tying bench, not bad for two bucks.

For dating it, the similar one on eBay (for a lot more $) has an instruction paper in it copyrighted 1966. Claimed as NOS

Late 1960s. I bought one new at that time and still have it (most of the contents used long ago) somewhere. I'm guessing I bought it from Herter's but don't recall. The instructions are probably still in the box, but Trev saved me some rummaging. More hints of the year-span of that product are in the cover, which has no zip code (implemented 1963), and any other printed materials which do or don't include the zip code. The cover art may have been adopted from another source--perhaps someone recognizes it.

That looks a lot like what my folks bought me about 69 or 70.

Bet we had the same lure-making kits, too! I gave that up for what little spin-fishing I did back then, but did stick with fly-tying from the basic start that kit gave. I wish someone could remember the seller(s) who had these available. I lost all my 60s Herter's catalogs in a move years ago. A little OL search turns up quite a bit of history about the Tack-L-Tyers, making me wonder if I/we got them mail-order direct from the company. In that case, I guess that was in response to an advertisement in one of the "big three" sportsman's mags (Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, Sports Afield) or maybe Boy's Life.

I think you are right whrlpool.
I read that tack-l-tyers made and sold several different kits for three or four decades, starting in the thirties. This kit is model no.111.
And yes, nothing on the box but their address.
