This is a great time of the year to be searching for stripers on the flats. I've been tying just some local proven patterns and enjoying good fishing.

Great looking patterns. I used to just use clousers and longer sand eel patterns, but those look sweet.

Both look great, but those baby flounder are over the top.
Well done.

Mind telling what materials you’re using on the flounder?

Thanks! The credit to this pattern goes to my friend Dave Skok: coyote tail fur and palmered tan-grizzly hen. For grey-dun versions I used brahma hen instead.

Those are gorgeous Vlad!

I do a similar coyote fur fly (probably saw one of yours years ago, I believe I've seen you post similar flies before, maybe on your blog?) and add tan and brown legs. Not sure if the stripers think they're crabs, shrimp or flounder, but I had great luck with them for big bass in shallow water fished really slowly on the bottom in Chatham this year in late June/early July when the water warmed up.

Jay,

Great job and a very nice fish! It's been so hot and it's hard to beat wet wading on the flats now...

I fished this morning for few hours and had plenty of shots on the flat. All fish came on the green crab.

Thanks again for the nice comments and tight lines!
Vlad

Those baby flounder are cool. Are they intended to ride hook point up and if so, how do you get them to do that?

Hi Brian,

Yes, they ride hook point up. Weighted with lead (or brass) eyes, like a Clouser minnow. Also, these are tied on a jig hook, but you can use a regular hook instead.

Thanks,
Vlad

Vlad, that’s what I figured but I couldn’t see the weighted eyes in the picture.
