Oh hey, have you heard of this new fly called a Cat’s Whisker? I didn’t have the right hooks. Now, it has a nose like Gonzo from the muppets.

Boy, does that look familiar, except for the Gonzo nose. I'm sure Bulldog will forgive you, but we'll see. Likely the best all-around fly in the south-central Texas waters. Oops!--looks like he did forgive you--posted his comment as I was posting mine.

Mr. Whiskers did not seem to mind the funny hook. He grabbed it as soon as it hit the water.

A strange June day chasing Guadalupe bass down from Hunt Crossing and up from the confluence.
Catfish and a surprise rainbow (this is 110 mi upstream from the tailwater).

People ask what fly are you fishing

Handsome fly! I wonder how it would look and ride if the bead chain eyes were tied up the vertical jig hook "bend".
I don't own any jig-type hooks for fly tying... hmmm..........

Bulldog is the expert on this fly. I like to tie the eyes on top of the wing wraps. This locks them down a lot better than figure 8s around the hook with just a thread base.

I was worried the jig hook would be too big, but I caught a bunch of sunfish and small bass without any problems. I didn’t miss any fish that bit it.

Arctic fox is the secret there - it gets caught in fish teeth - it's fish velcro.

and yes, all percoids have teeth - they're on the tip of their tongues.
