Single hackle dry fly

Just messing around on the bench tonight with some twisted antron extended bodies. Wondered what would happen if you tried it with hackle. This is the result. I imagine the durability is horrible but looks buggy to me.

Interesting. I would also cut out the center of the tail so as to have a split or splayed tail.

What model hook are you using there, I'm intrigued by the idea of a short shanked hook.

Yes that is interesting. I've always liked simple to tie "less is more" type of flies. I see possibilities, and agree with Hellmtflies.

Thanks to Hellmtflies for the tip, will defiantly try that.

The hook is a firehole 413 #16, and the pictures here illustrate my basic process.

The inspiration (variation of a feather bender pattern)


Using hackle pliers to secure the twisted hackle tail


Securing the hackle to the shank, then just cut off the butt end and wrap the hackle tip as normal.

Oh, I really like the way the twisted yarn body transitions into a parachute. Simple and elegant.
