Here's some Dedeaux Poppers but on #6 and #8. The video is me using using the fly to catch Guads stripping it with the current on my 3wt. Enjoy

Here’s Alvin showing how to tie those: https://youtu.be/PS7V-IIUaRg. Disgusting, but effective. I particularly like his instructions for tying on the weed guard: do whatever it takes to stick it on the hook. I remember chatting with him at the Austin Angler back in the day. He’s a real character.

Knew Alvin when he was a clerk at Austin Angler.
Hiking Snake Island between Mushroom Rocks and Redhorse Run one day, Alvin had a table spread out for lunch for his clients.
He gave me a cookie.

The zonker strip fouls on the smaller hooks. I tied it using feathers on a #8

Here's a little frog popper that pops up and down and lays on its side when retrieved fast. Its good for the Texas Guadalupe bass and smaller bass and pan fish. Its a cool pattern.

I’m going to tie a few of these with craft fur tails for the 100% craft store effect. The foam seems to 1.5x taller than the hook gap. What keeps these floating upright instead of floating on their sides?

If you tie them too tall they definitely float on their sides. They still work alright but it bothers me when they do that so when I tie them I keep the front of the fly shorter (if that makes sense).

Makes sense. I read somewhere that keeping the height less than the hook gap ensures flies float upright, but there are some that defy that logic. The weight of the tail and the taper towards the back may make a difference in this case. I like craft fur tails for ease of casting, though.

When you make them wobbly, its gives and upright pop and a side pop, it makes a walking the dog action, it'll drive bass crazy

I tied a few that were medium sized and only as tall as the hook gap. They did not have a lot of pop or action, so I’ll try a bit more height next time.

I have been messing around with this pattern. I put the smaller strip of foam on the inside for a more realistic look. I shortened the height a bit, but it still tends to tilt to one side or the other, which does give it an interesting action.

Did I just reinvent the crease fly?

used the one Paul sent me today, and it was a home run- hard to see in photo (except for bunny tail) great movement and the bass sipped it like he was eating an snack.

Nice bass! It does seem like a good fly for larger bass.

Flybuddy, I fished it for a few hours yesterday and didn’t have any problems with the tail fouling.

I think it depends on the hook used if it fouls or not
