I'm really enjoying the pricey but very useful Swiss CDC clamp. The first soft hackle is pine squirrel with both coarse and guard hairs on the loop. The second has a deer hair loop hackle, sparse and different, something made possible for me by that clamp.

Those are nice. Loon has a D-loop tweezer that serves dual duty as a clamp, and it is much cheaper. I’ll have to give it a try.

Mike, Veevus 6/0? I've got that in black. I've done the composite loops with Veevus 10/0 and once, as an experiment with Veevus 12/0 and a very careful spin. I think I just got lucky with the 12/0 because it should have broken trying a loop. I'm going to tie a whole range of colors of soft hackles with squirrel hackle, so I guess I'll stock up on Veevus 6/0. Thanks for the reply. I use the OPST dubbing spinner. It's perfect.

bocast, im retired and way to much time on my hands! So im always looking at different patterns to tie, and I like to support my local flyshop (a lot) so you can substitute a lot of different threads in the same size, with just black if you wanted. But its fun to play around with these and I really need a connection to flyfishing right now! I hope you enjoy the pattern, and went back and looked its by McFly, he has some great patterns and there is another gentleman, Spratt I believe, who does really cool sbs, anyway I ramble to much, so show us your results with clamp, and have fun.
Mike.

Here's a way to do about the same thing with a bulldog clamp from the office;
https://www.pechetruite.com/Mouches/cdc-dubbing1.htm

https://www.pechetruite.com/Mouches/cdc-dubbing2.htm

A bigger clamp can be made cutting a credit/gift card in half length wise and cementing/epoxying the halves to the bulldog's jaws.

It probably doesn't work as well as a purpose made tool but it was in use to some extent before the Magic tool and long before I heard of CDC.

"It's not the arrow it's the archer." I'm sure steadier hands than mine could accomplish the same and much better with your suggestion. I cheat and use the CDC clamp.
