Robert, you are a very skilled feather bender. Those are beautifully tied trudes.

Nice!

A Royal Trude -- tailless -- is my all time, no hatch, attractor dry fly.

P.S. Just recalled the correct name for my pattern -- Wright's Royal!

Thanks Lanny! I haven't made a post on the Tying Bench page in a long time, nor have I been tying trudes. I figured I'd get back to doing both. :)

The trude has been my go-to dry fly for brook trout in the eastern US for 15 years. For whatever reason I seldom use it in the western states - maybe I should start :) Beautiful ties!

Looking forward to throwing these to some hungry cutthroat in Wyoming this August with you Roy! Hopefully my daughter's college move-in schedule won't conflict with the Cutt Slam Clave.

Interesting enough, the Trude series seems to have begun as wet flies. I first became aware of them in the A.J. McClane “Fishing Encyclopedia” when really starting to fly-fish in the late ‘60s or early 70’s. One of my go-to patterns for some time was the Red Trude, tied either as a streamer up to about a size 4 or a wet fly down to about size 14.

Incidentally, the last time I fished for trout, which was in the hills of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, a small Red Trude (size 12) tied on as a dropper above a streamer came through for me with a nice little rainbow.

Very nice! The Lime Trude has been a favorite of mine since learning of it in LaFountaine's Caddisfly book. A very effective fly, and fun to tie and look at.

I think I'm going to tie some Rio Grande Kings as wet flies next. :)

You guys have sparked my interest in both Rio Grande Kings and Lime Trudes. I’ve tied a bunch of both and I’m ready to head to northern New Mexico and southern Colorado in coming weeks. Here’s some additional resources I’ve found on the web:
