Hi all,
I haven't posted here in a while but I've got some extra time on my hands as I'm sure many of you do. I thought I'd throw up this quick step by step of a caddis pattern I've been playing with over the years. This one is a size 14 but it can be scaled down fairly easily.
Materials list:
That's a cream colored antron yarn on the bottom right.
Tie in the vinyl rib. Be sure to leave enough space between the body and the eye for tying off the CDC, antron, and swiss straw at the end.
Dub the underbody, slightly heavier in the rear. Not too much dubbing, this one's easy to over do.
Wrap the vinyl rib. One wrap on the bare shank below the dubbing, then touching wraps up over the dubbing. Again, leave some space.
Tie in your CDC puff. I like to wet it a little with saliva so it's easier to manage. Tied slightly short of the body length.
Antron yarn, divided into an appropriate amount of fibers. Tied in slightly longer than body.
Swiss straw, unraveled and cut lengthwise into quarters. Folded over once or twice and shaped at the end. The shaped end goes towards the rear of the fly.
Tie it in a hair short of the CDC.
Whip it, whip it good. Cement. Cast, set the hook, net, photo, release.
I hope this works for you as it has for me.
