This seems to be "The year of the glue" on my bench.

Always used Orvis, Universal, unbranded stuff in the square bottles. Works ok but nothing outstanding. Hard to build a head w/o building up 10 coats. Better options around for sure.

Sally Hanson, Hard As Nails is a goot alternative and availability in colors. Seems to hold up well. I use it pretty much for building up heads as it's too heavy to finish a dry.

Zap A Gap is great, especially for holding things in place while doing something else. Beginning last fall I began putting a microdrop on my bodkin and putting it on the final 1/2' of my tying thread before whip finishing or laying a half-hitch to finish the fly. Holds everything tight, absolutely the minimum weight (assuming you're using any cement at all), very clean finish. Really happy with it.

UV... Lots of experiments with it over the winter with mixed results. As a head cement it's acceptable for what I do. Have to use the Flow mix as it seems to penetrate the threads the best. 10 seconds out UV light and it's done.

UV Thick is a different story entirely. The Loon coloring powder seemed like an awesome idea but so far mixed results. Even mixing thoroughly, I'm still getting the color/powder on my fingers with the resin completely cured. The answer may be another coat of Flow on top of that. Additionally, the powder leaves a full rather than glossy finish. More experiments required.

What I do like is the UV resin mixed with fine, fine glitter. I got an 8 color assortment at Michael's for $10. That works great. Stuff is pretty messy and gets everyplace. If you get this stuff on you, the wife might grill you on your whereabouts!

Another approach to improve control of SallyH with small flies is to clip off most of the brush, leaving just a few fibers in the last quarter inch.
