Vlad,

I just had a conversation with a close buddy about looking forward to the day when I can be on the Vineyard when the bonito are in. Never done it. Next year when I am retired!

Thanks Pat, my small tuna fly boxes are mostly full, but I still need to tie certain sizes/color.

Rich, I hear you. I do put a lot of miles each Fall chasing these fish, but I don't mind...Heck, I even forget insane Boston traffic when these fish are in... They are worth it! :-)

Nice flies!! That pink one looks intriguing. Last year that seemed to be the color the days I was out.

Yeah, it looks like a fly version of pink "Albie Snax." :lol I like pink, but also olive, tan, yellow...etc. I just finished another batch this afternoon. Rocks are tough on flies, especially on carbon steel hooks which can't be resharpened.

Nice flies. I sharpen my carbon steel hooks that I use in saltwater all of the time. I use a tiemco ceramic file. Are you worried about removing the tin plating? Sharpening does remove it, but I touch it up the next time. Usually, the fly gets torn up or lost before I remove enough metal sharpening to be an issue. Carbon steel is a lot easier to sharpen than stainless and stays sharper, but nothing stands up to granite.

Karstopo,

If I whack a carbon hook into a rock, I certainly touch it up with a file. :-) However, carbon/black nickel finish hooks make awesome boat or even beach hooks, but lousy jetty/rock hooks. Most (but not all) of this fishing is from rocks. Carbon steel hooks deteriorate faster once coating is compromised and will discolor acrylic flies due to corrosion...A candy tied on stainless hook will remain clean looking even without rinsing. I do have a good selection of stainless hooks (I like Varivas), but it seems many manufacturers are moving away from stainless steel hooks.

More magnum silversides, and also good imitation of European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus.) These imitate full grown specimens, tied on size 2/0 hooks.

Indeed, very well. They are weighted under the wraps, but any good 8-10wt will throw them as far as needed.

Just received samples of new colored tubing by Hends...it makes an interesting variation on standard pearl EZ tubing.

Hey guys, glad you like 'em. I use UV resin to cover the tubing (Solarez.) Thanks!
