Mike, I know that stretch of water but didnt fish it much. I most often fish downstream from there or on the lower Beaverkill. Man, those are great looking Green Drakes! The tail on the spinner, is that porcupine? peccary? very nice. here are a couple i tied recently. Image

this'll get wet tomorrow...

I'll just calling it "Champ" (tail is from Bailey the Dawg--he was sleeping when I relieved him of unnecessary tail and ear hair)

Oh yeah. Nice pattern. Very buggy looking. That will work. It could pass for a lot of acquatic insects-- caddis larva, mayfly nymph, sow bug, hellgrammite...

Nice flies everyone!

Tied up some klinkhamers for the first time last night. I've been wanting to try this one for a while now and have a couple other colors and sizes on the list.

The tails are pheasant tail fibers

Those 22s give me the fits. I don't like tying or fishing them. But they are a necessary evil on tailwaters I fish.
Flyman, I like your parachute midge. What do you use for parachute posts?

I use a small piece of white Antron yarn for the post. They are a challenge to tie no doubt but productive on the southeastern tail waters I fish. Having these in the box is essential on certain days if you want to catch anything.

luckily 'my' waters don't require such tiny flies...I'm not sure what I'd do if they did as I hate tying them and I hate fishing them...

kudos to you guys for having the patience to get those tied.

Seems the further west one goes generally the bigger the bugs. Guess thats why mosquitos in Alaska have FAA tail numbers and trout eat mice like skittles. Like Clarkman I am not keen on fishing the really tiny stuff. I can barely see a #18 on the water fishing close to me. Anything smaller I would have to use a bobber.

Guys who can craft flies on tiny hooks impress the heck out of me.

Here's a tutorial for the "doculator"

Really not an overly difficult tie. The ones picture above are kind big, a size 10, and are tied with regular craft foam. I imagine you'd need a slightly thinner foam for smaller size flies.

First time using Krystal Flash Chenille. These brought a few trout to the boat and a 20" Pike. Nice surprise!

I'm not sure that's a fly. I think it's more of a small dead chicken. If you're going for Muskie I think you should go a bit bigger.

you're likely right...although, my understanding from a couple of guys that target them out here is that on the smaller side of 'whole chicken' is more appropriate...I have yet to test that theory.

Indeed they are (along with another one that's about double their size)...
