I'll try to do a more step by step next time I tie one up. I can't remember what all I threw in there off the top of my head, but it has the base of bucktail, saddle hackles, flash but I added some synthetics similar to SF blend, but I'll dig that up as well.

Here's a stimi variant that I had really good success with during the October Caddis hatch last fall. We were catching fish on dries while the other boats struggled with nymphing.

So, I decided to try out a purple version for summer fishing.

Morten, I really like that CDC & Elk Cripple. The CDC & Elk is a favorite of mine. I may have to add this to my box.

I agree, the Westslope cutts in my area love purple. Purple hoppers, the Purple Haze regular and Cripple, and a couple of secret purple flies that do well for me. I am excited to see how this one produces.

I've enjoyed the streamers you have been tying.

Glacier Rambler: the CDC&Elk is my favorite pattern as well. It catches fish in all kind of environments, from the small freestone creek behind my house, to slow gin clear river, and in lakes deep in the forest or high up in the mountains. Really versatile as well, can be fished dry, in the film og dragged under like a swimming pupa.

Favorite: dark deer hair size 16

I haven't fished the cripple yet, but I'm excited to see how it works. My guess is it will catch fish.

A spent spinner to imitate the Leptophlebia marginata, the first mayfly to hatch in my area. Hackle wings and faux bucktail in the tail makes it durable fly

Got interested in the buctail style of streamers last season, really like to strip these fast through shallow pools and riffles. Here's a Heggeli variation

Thanks 'hersh', there is a ton of inspiration on this forum, and a lot of talented tiers. Makes the winter seem shorter.

This might be one of the best looking flies I’ve ever tied... I hope the fish agree with me :lol

@Jhuskey...I go back with some Solarez "Bone Dry" thin and take care of that slightly tacky feeling from the Loon thick. I have heard that a little alcohol rub can knock it out as well, but have not tried that.

@Clark...that is a great sparse crawdad. So many of the crawdad patterns out there are way too bulky, imho, to get down like I want them to. These flies of yours will conk their heads on the bottom.

Thanks for the kind words...

Here's the latest 9" of tiger musky goodness...

Dry

Wet

@Driftless, I actually did a SBS on this one over at WFF. I'll try to get it up here, but there are enough steps, it'll take a bit. The steps for this one are essentially the same as the earlier one you were asking about (except that the majority of the length here is synthetic--similar to SF--compared to the shorter/fatter saddle hackles).

Cheers!

edit: a few more from recently....

Little trout streamers...

A couple from a recent virtual fly tying night...

another addition: I ended up doing another with a removable tail (totally customizable).
no tail:

black schlappen tail (this swam really really nicely yesterday--even had a tiger musky come over to check it out):

clarkman, Have you tried those monsters on tubes? They seem like they would be made for tube flies.

I haven't. I also never use a trailer hook (muskies and tiger muskies always go for the head). It wouldn't be a terrible idea though to help flies last longer and keep them from getting torn up in the teeth. I know that many of the guys getting after Makos do this for that very reason.

edit:

another addition. I tied this one up for a gentleman who has perch a a major forage in his local tiger musky waters....plus, I wanted to test out the new little photo box I grabbed. It's a little on the smaller side for larger flies, but better than the table and extremely portable. The fly in question is ~8.5"-9" total length, which is about the max size I can squeeze into this box.
