As if I need any more of these :rolleyes

but, whatever...I've been having fun with craft eyes...

Double 5/0 Gami B10S....a combo between a Chocklett's T-Bone and my own design based loosely off of a Berant's Optimus Swine (the innards)
Image

Single Ahrex 6/0 Predator Light (seems a little counter intuitive) based off of the same stuff above....as usual, with my own twist (or three) to it...

Cheers!

How did you build the head?

I like the overall looks that one.

This is the Batman Nymph. A local guy caught around 20 or so rainbows the other day on this nymph. I finally got the recipe for it.

Thread: purple
Hook: any reasonable nymph hook
Bead: gold bead
Tail: brown goose biots
Body: Purple Ice Dubbing
Wings: Black goose biots
Hackle: Black hen saddle hackle
Ribbing: Fine blue wire

Tough to explain, but I just used that braided body material, tied it in backwards, reversed it, tied it again, and reversed it again. Take a peek at Blane Chocklett's T-Bone (his body material is a bit easier to work with, I just didn't have any). There are multiple videos out on that, which will illustrate the technique far better than I could ever. I ended up going that route because my CCT heads would soak up too much water for my liking (they work damn well, just the head soaks up a bit of water), so they cast far easier but I still get that large profile and action I'm looking for. The eyes are thrown on only for my own amusement (added bonus is that they also provide additional noise).

I wanted to tie a yellow fly on the lines of a Copper John. Many of the insects trout feed on here in the Smokies are all yellow, some shade of yellow, or yellow and some other colors. This what I have come up with. The gold bead and yellow wire body should make it sink pretty fast. Sorry about the poor photography, but it is what it is. I hope you can get the idea.
Joe

Hook: #14 nymph hook
Bead: gold bead
Thread: Yellow
Tail: Ginger goose biots
Body: Small yellow wire
Thorax: Yellow possum dubbing
Wing casing and legs: Dyed yellow duck quill

I picked up a few heads from Spawnflyfish & felt obligated to use them...I'm also playing around with some new hooks. This one is on an Ahrex Predator 6/0

This should get wet in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers!

no, it's a pretty hard plastic head. I'm not sure what it's going to do for the action of how I normally tie my flies, but I certainly love the look. I also add foam onto the shank to ultimately make the entire fly perfectly neutral (I'm typically fishing anything from an intermediate line to a type 4).

The true test will be when it gets wet within the next couple of weeks.

As usual for me:).....deerhair bugs, Cicada variations lately but I have also been playing around with wire weaving bodies on classic bucktails/hairwings. Its a neat way to add weight and looks killer, although the fish don't care.

Wow, those wire weave bodies are very nice! They create a scaley look like non other I have seen.

How is it done?

Beautiful bugs! Cicadas were out in N. Alabama during summer of 2011 (I think). The din had to be over 100dB!

Top shelf work as usual. So you weave with wire the same as with chenille or other materials?.Trev is right, gives a nice scale effect..The red tag is a nice touch too.

Speckled trout are feeding in the surf on brown shrimp. Borski Sliders work, but these shrimp sometimes check the right boxes that the Borski can't. Image

The hersh-youre correct...no thread needed until u get to the hair wing. It adds the perfect amount of weight too!
