A favorite of mine. I’ve always called them “Light Spruce”. Also, the dry fly version works really well at times.

Way back in my youth, after a 6 year hitch in my favorite Uncles Navy, the Spruce Fly was one of the first flies I learned to tie with a respectable outcome. Still a favorite with me. I've used it catch trout, largemouth, smallmouth, bluegills and other small stream panfish.

May I ask where you get these 'hackle pliers'?

Jay, those are Dr. Slick Extra Hand Tweezers - eBay, Amazon, Bears Den, Feather-Craft, etc.

All the pictures on here are inspiring - I'm trying to improve my tying this year (gotta long way to go, though).

Recent Shad darts that actually worked earlier today!!

And then some for trout, I have been on a soft hackle craze this year. They have done really well for brookies and browns this spring. Rainbows are apparently more discerning

All great ties Zeppo-VA! Well done. For those reluctant trout, try a Wotton's Black & silver spider:

Hook: wet fly or down eyed nymph #14
Thread: black UTC 70
Rib: small silver wire
Body: silver tinsel
Thorax: dubbing Prism SLF peacock
Hackle: black hen, not too heavy

DVDs Wet Fly Ways & Wet Fly Tying are money for wet fly techniques. I think one of them may be on Amazon prime.

I’m happy that I finally have something to contribute to this thread. Just in time for river bass season, the Murdich Minnow.

Here’s a variation of Lefty’s classic deceiver - a little heavy on the bucktail, but hopefully the bass will oblige me.

Nice colors on that Deceiver! I’ve been tying some trout flies. These are duns with golden plover soft feather in the front.

Those are great Vlad. They look like a fly called a Cinberg.

Not sure what I was aiming for here, just having fun with deer hair.

Those will look good and buggy underwater, EB. So many options with deer hair.

Just tied some light and dark gray variations of the Midnight Mullet. Applicable not only because this pattern catches all kinds of fish, but also describes my current haircut.

First post on the forum, so I figured I would start here.

I've been on a huge game changer kick as of late.

Those game changers look nice! Here's another dry fly. Royal Wulff with bivisible hackle. Saw this variant in an online article.

I'm enjoying your ties, everyone. Here is a BWO from today. It is a 14, but I'm going to start tying them smaller.

Those are good looking game changers and waking minnows, QJordan. Which predatory species are you after with those?

Golden Darter. One of my favorites for the last couple of seasons.
