I realize this is a strange-looking fly, but I could fish it 100% of the time in the salt - it catches reds, specs, flounder, ladyfish, mackerel

Neat flys BD,
I will keep them in mind, swrimp are a very popular bait for the fish on this coast, I will have to upsize them a bit, say to 4/0 but the concept is there for a baseline to start. Im trying to get myself together and perhaps a handfull of like minded souls to venture forth with fly rods in hand for offshore fisheries. While Im not gonna hit the big guys (yellow fin or blue fin tuna) I would like to hit into schools of Albacore, Yellowtail and Baracuda in the 20-35 pound class. The do still exist and the cost of a medium sized charter is not subject to getting a second mortage. Plus there is a local guy who's got alot of Cable Interests about offshore fishing who might just jump at some Saltwater fly fishing, hes got a spot for it and no video. A 100% plus is he's mega familiar with fishing around Catalina Island. It would be nice to charter his smaller boat for 4-6 anglers and do it all with fly rods. swrimp would be high on the menu for the big guys.

Ron, that's a great fly (the top one). I like to use General Practitioner for shrimp imitation for stripers in the Northeast. Yeah, I know-Kenny Abrames influence ... ;-) I love swimming flies.

great-looking fly. I worked on a kicking shrimp for 10 years before I found Ally's shrimp.

keeled hook-up by the bead chain is great for the skinny water we fish

These babies are what I use primarily for winter-run steelies, purples, oranges, shrimp/salmon pink, and the ever useful BLACK!

I've also simplified it by tying it with cross-cut bunny hair ...

Here's one in Claret
