Trev mentioned this up above, but it's worth considering one-piece spinning/casting blanks. Right now, Mudhole.com has some short, one-piece E-glass blanks on sale at a very nice price. I have found their call-in customer service to be really helpful for rodbuilding advice and problem solving. I would bet that someone there could give you a decent estimate of how the blank might turn out if built for fly fishing instead.

You could reach out to McFarland or Shane to see if they would roll a blank.

I thought about that Carl, but having never built a rod ,something a little more basic to start with.I think i will rewatch Matt's videos on rebuilding a cane rod .Thinking about making a rod out of 2 sections,i have 4 or 5 complete rods and a bunch of unused looking tip sections.Wasn't physically able to fish as much this year.Feeling better all the time but we got ice on the water already so stocked trout season is over.Getting stir crazy already sp putting the tying stuff away and start fooling with these old rods to piece something together.Cabela's prime rods were a flop as no one seemed to want 1 piece rods yet i have not seen one for sale anywhere.
