I recently picked up a turned cedar grip and had it laser engraved with my name and a trout. Now I'm scratching my head on how to properly finish it. I'm using Tru Oil (1 coat already applied...) and am wondering if it will build up enough to fill in the engraving. I'd hate for grime or dirt to get in there and ruin it. Any recommendations on the best way to protect this part of the grip?

Tru-oil is basically very thin spar varnish. Perhaps switch to a fresh can of classic spar varnish. Very patiently apply one or two coats per week until you get the effect you want. Make sure each coat is hard before applying another. Never apply new varnish over soft varnish.

Thanks for the advice! I'll let the oil dry completely and try some spar.
