I know it may be a bit early but we had snow yesterday. It got me thinking about Winter projects.
Does anyone want to do this again?
I’ve got at least 4 projects to do
7 1/2’ built on a Phillipson blank
8 1/2 Action Glass
9’ Montague a peace offering to my brother
13’ center pin rod. Non glass

Never done this before but am looking into getting a kit from Matt at Proof for my first build. Probably go with his 6’6” or 8’ Olive.

Don’t worry about never having done this. That’s kind if the whole idea. Folks swap ideas help each other. Sometimes swap parts. Post pics of their progress. Etc. There’s no hard deadline. Personally I shoot for the end of March so I’m ready for opening day.
Either of your blank choices are good depending on where you will use it.

Sounds good, thanks for the support! I’ll post some pics once I’m up and running, or rolling…

i haven't got the blank yet but im looking at a CTS 8' 4wt. CTS says the action is the same as the 7'6" (very sweet) so it will either be a wonderful rod for tributary fishing or for sale around april.

@bigheavy like cheffy said, post all your progress with photos and you will get so much great information and feed back shorten your learning curve tremendously, more than one way to skin a cat.

Are you going with the new CTS that they just introduced? They are saying the tapers are faster.
My 7 1/2’ CTS Quartz 4 wt is usually one of the first rods I grab if I’m going out

I'm in. I have a bamboo rod blank to build out from Mark Fitch (Payne 101 taper). I also have a Dale Clements 8' 6/7 glass blank to build out. And I want to rewrap my Fenwick FF75 as a few of the guides are very loose.

Looks like a great project. I've always liked those "comficient" grips on SB's.

A bad pic. Burned? No. But badly stained. I hope to clean and salvage the grip and seat.

I have too much going on to do a rebuild this winter. I will be lucky if I can get a new tip section wrapped and finish a graphite rod or two that I had planned to do last spring.

However I have a Livinstone and McFarland blank that may move up in the order if I start feeling artistic.

I have an 8' 5wt spruce creek in a beautiful green that I've been waiting to build, but I'm waiting until I have some inspiration and patience. The other is a GTX 4wt that has the cork glued up already. I have an a couple of others too, but they aren't going to tempt me as much. I think the Livingstone 5wt will probably have to wait for a bit too.

My priorities are wrapping a new tip for my GTX 866, and two 7wt graphite rods that I want to build up to take my IFFF Master Casting Instructor test on. They don't need to be pretty, but I have some SiC guides that I want to put on them. These are fast action and not the most fun to fish, but they should be a bit easier to cast out to 90+ feet without straining myself.

The McFarland Tailwind 6wt is my current distance casting rod but I want a 7wt and I'm not looking for the soft tip to protect tippet in a rod that I'm only going to use for casting. It's the oddest thought to build a rod that I'm not going to fish.

My winter project list just grew. A good friend just ordered a couple of NFC euro blanks. More builds to plan

Wow! Lotsa action.

The dback graphites are legendary! Long time forum members will recall RFMcDougal, who worked for a spell at dback in VT.

Love the Payne project... been itching for a 100 taper myself.

But, wha! Neither of these are glass. LOL!
