Don't know why I've not thought of/ done this before now
Bought a Fenwick tube for an 8 1/2' spinning rod, shortened it to fit a 7 1/2' rod,
and will use it when I travel to take up less space (driving the RV)
Holds three rods nicely.

Sure, first remove the butt end cap by prying the white cap outwards gently from the brown tube, one side at a time. Go slowly because you need to push the three buttons of the cap away from the holes drilled into the sides of the tube, and I can imagine some tubes may be more brittle than others and could crack, but mine was fine and sturdy. Once the tube and cap are separated, I cut the tube to length on my miter saw, and measured and marked the tube for holes. Drill the holes - I carefully marked the hole locations using the cut off piece of tube as a guide, drilled a small hole on the mark, then a larger hole (1/4" I think but going off top of my old head). Snap the cap back on and you're done. I should have done this years ago.

Is the spinning rod tube that much larger "diameter"? or what is the difference between the tube for a fly rod and one for a spinning rod?
With socks? And do you need to alternate grips up and down or do three grips fit together?
I have a round unknown tube acquired at a yard sale decades ago that carries two 7'-7.5' rods nicely but three would be better.

Spinning rod case is almost 3", while fly rod case is almost 2". I did not measure any more precisely than that.
The larger case holds the 3 rods with socks, all grips up, without being tight.

Good idea. I like triangular tubes because they don’t roll around in the back of the car like round tubes do.

John, thanks for the tip. I found a tube for 8 1/2’ rod and fit my
FF 85, FF856, and aFenwick Eagle in it. I’m cheap, so I have a few rods without tubes. Thanks to you I have Three less in that condition. :)

If you know a person with good photo shop skills they could probably create a cleaner label
With new rod numbers on it.
