Anyone know or have an educated guess what color/type of thread is used to wrap the new Scott G series? Building a rod on a black blank for a friend for his birthday and trying to get it close to that look. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Sounds like a great projec. To my eye, the colors appear to be maroon and yellow. I expect someone else can be a bit more specific.

I'd start with ProWrap in copper with something like taxi cab or Midas gold for the trim (that one is probably color fast). It seems to have that light shimmer that is characteristic of ProWrap.

Honestly, though, I would bet the color is something proprietary. So, you can probably get close, but not exact.

I'm thinking to start with ProWrap Almond or Rattan for main color.

It’s not Almond. Here is what that looks like on a black blank.

Yeah maybe not, but it looks really different in a lot of the pics I'm seeing. I agree some are very copper-ish but in most, it doesn't seem red enough for copper so I went the other way. Could it vary by year maybe? The pic on their site actually looks very close to Almond, and I was even gonna say Desert Sand if going by those pics.

Here are some test wraps I did with brown / chestnut / rattan / Midas gold. I think it’s close but these wraps are all with NOCP thread. I need to order some in non-NOCP for the main but keep the NOCP for the trim.

Thanks for all of the input/suggestions, I appreciate it.

Sorry to revive an old thread but attempting color matching of serialized rods is a lot of fun for me.

This is a pretty close approximation to the current Scott G Series thread.

Maroon - Kimono 314
Yellow - Kimono 303 with color preserver
Gold - Kimono 304

I wrapped the yellow first, applied Color Preserver, then bookended the yellow in the other two silk wraps.

I've tried my own hand at a Scott G Series knock-off. I used Prowrap copper and an NCP old gold from Pac Bay. Here's a pic.
