About to enter the world of cork and I'm interested if there are any advantages / disadvantages of using 1/4 inch rings vs 1/2 inch rings. A couple, like more glue, appear obvious. but do other issues arise ?

A slight disadvantage when gluing up with Titebond III is that you need to work quicker.

No experience using 1/4” cork. Apart from having to work quicker, you also will double the number of glue lines. If that doesn’t matter to you, try it. You can always do it again.

Another slight disadvantage of quarter inch rings (for the most part all I use) is that your cost per grip inch will go up slightly.

A distinct advantage is that the flaws/voids in the cork extend only 1/4" and not 1/2". I recently saw a rod with 1/8" thick rings and that grip looked terrific.

Despite recognizing advantages of thinner rings, I happen to use 1/2" thick ones!

Thanks everyone for your input. It's greatly appreciated.
