Second rod finished for the wife who requested purple wraps and kicking around ideas for several more in the coming months. Another DB Meeker rod, this one the 763/3 which I'm finding balances well with a RR-1 and casts nicely with a 3 wt line but even nicer with a 4 wt in my opinion though I have yet to fish it. Color locked the sig wrap, ferrule wraps and winding check but wanted the snakes and stripper somewhat transparent so did not use any on those. Also have been researching lathes, drill presses etc. to start turning my own cork and seat inserts but going to wait a few before taking that plunge..........Thank you to those on this board that I've been asking advice from, I very much appreciate it !!!!!

Very nicely done! Wondering if you pinned the butt cap?

Thank you ! And no, I did not............And had the same thought when I was putting the cap on. I was very thorough with the epoxy here however so time will tell. I will probably fish a cheaper reel on it though for a bit until it proves its stability......... :lol

Great work! My advice is to take the plunge and get a lathe. It will take you further down the rabbit hole but it’s fun.

Nice job. I like the reel seat and grip! The Ross reel is a beauty.

I agree you should get a lathe. I already had a lathe when I started building rods. It is an old (50+ years) long bed Delta wood lathe. It has belts and pulleys to adjust the speed. Works great but more than needed. If you do get a lathe, I suggest you get a newer short bed lathe with a variable speed motor. No need for a drill press, you can bore the reel seat out with the lathe.

Great work! I too have avoided the lathe, but seems tempting ...
